Three years after founding of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in 1994, the first ARF Meeting of the Heads of Defense Universities / Colleges / Institutions (ARF HDUCIM) was held in Manila, Philippines on October 7th and 8th, 1997. Subsequently 9 more meetings were held consecutively at the following places : Republic of Korea (2nd – 1998), Mongolia (3rd – 1999), China (4th – 2000), Japan (5th – 2001), Russia (6th – 2002), India (7th – 2003), Singapore (8th – 2004), Vietnam (9th – 2005) and Malaysia (10th – 2006). After these meetings it was decided that a documented terms of reference was necessary for the smooth and proper conduct of such meetings. Now NDUM become a hosting for 25th ARF HDUCIM.

The UPNM delegation, lead by YBhg Dato’ Dr. Junaidah Kamarruddin, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Industrial Networks and Corporate Relations, held a bilateral meeting between UPNM and General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (KDU), Sri Lanka.

The delegation was welcomed by KDU Vice Chancellor, Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP and KDU officials.

In the meeting that was held, both sides discussed the implementation of the MoU which includes a number of activities that will be implemented in the near future, among which is the implementation of the 25th ASEAN Regional Forum – Head of Defense University, Colleges and Institute Meeting on 2023, where UPNM will be the Chairman and Host while KDU Sri Lanka will be the Co-Chairman.

Apart from that, both parties have agreed to hold a Student Mobility activity where the UPNM Student Representative Council will make a study visit to Sri Lanka under the supervision of KDU.

Discussions also focused on joint research agendas in several priority areas such as management, engineering and medical sciences.

On the occasion of this meeting, the delegation was taken on a tour of the KDU museum and around the KDU campus.
